And I thought it was a chick-flick...

With a title like Cloverfield, I really wouldn't have had given it much thought until I read that Cloverfield is the elusive 1-18-08 movie by J.J. Abrams. Will it be one of the best monster movies ever made? Will it suck? Will it look like another Godzilla rip-off?

I'm not sure if I want to watch it. I probably will though. Roughly 2 more months to go!

The Eye -- Another Remake

Here we have another Asian horror movie remake. (Can't Hollywood ever come up with their own horror movie these days?) The Eye stars Jessica Alba and it will be released next year, February 1, 2008.

So what is the movie about? The Eye is about a woman who receives an eye transplant. Apparently, the eye that she receives is cursed and this causes the woman to see things differently. Meaning, she can see dead people and stuff.

The original The Eye (Jian Gui in Chinese) was pretty scary. As the tradition of Hollywood horror remakes (at least on my part), they aren't even half as scary as the original ones. Which really sucks, you know? Anyway, before I end up ranting more, watch the trailer and see if you're willing to spend some money on this remake or not.

Maggie Q = Silver Fox?

maggie qI've just read that Die Hard actress Maggie Q is one of the top choices to play the character Silver Fox in the 2009 movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Backtrack a bit. It has been confirmed that Silver Fox is included in the prequel. What's unconfirmed is
who's playing her...but Maggie Q is the top choice apparently.

Who is Silver Fox?

Silver Fox is Wolverine's love interest. More like his
ex-girlfriend or something to that note. I don't really know how their little relationship started but Silver Fox is a CIA-agent-turned-terrorist in the comic's story. She's killed by Sabretooth by the way.

Okay, so does knowing that Silver Fox is in X-Men Origins: Wolverine makes you want to watch the movie more? Or is it Maggie Q that extra push to make you want to watch the movie today? I personally don't find her pretty and I'm looking forward to the movie mainly because Wolverine's my favorite X-Men (and Hugh Jackman's a plus).

Thoughts and opinions?

National Treasure 2 Trailer

I'm so looking forward to watching National Treasure: Book of Secrets. I loved the first National Treasure movie, so I'm pretty confident that I'll love the second movie too. Book of Secrets is about..well..a book of secrets. It's a book that only the presidents of the United States can read. Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) needs to get his hands on this book in order to prove his great-great grandfather's innocence in Abraham Lincoln's death.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets will be released on December 21, 2007. Mark your calendars, people!!

Naomi Watts in Angels & Demons?

naomi wattsIn case anyone's looking forward to the movie adaptation of Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, Naomi Watts might play opposite great actor Tom Hanks. The movie is set to be released May 15, 2009 because of the setback caused by the recent writers' strike.

Personally, I liked Angels & Demons than The Da Vinci Code. The books, of course. Although I'm kind of skeptical about the Angel & Demons movie. I didn't really enjoy the DVC movie. If it weren't for Tom Hanks, I'd hate the movie. I think Tom Hanks was the saving grace of The Da Vinci Code.

I don't really care much about people saying that the book/movie is sacrilegious. It's their opinion and their
faith. I take the movie as a movie, nothing personal. Then again, there isn't anything to be taken personally in the first place.

Oh well. I might watch Angels & Demons either for the sake of watching it, or because it got good reviews, or because I already watched DVC. Keyword:
might.

JLA, Tim Burton and Dragon Ball

justice league of america, jlaAs I haven't really seen any new movie, and neither could I remember anything that I've seen before right now, I'll just give a brief movie-related news. (It's all about movies these past few entries, no?)

Fans of Tim Burton, better get ready. Burton and Disney is collaborating to create a new movie:
Alice in Wonderland. Yep, that's right. The movie will be shot in a way similar to Beowulf

For those of you who are waiting for the upcoming
(meaning it's in 3-D), and with Tim Burton directing it, I'm sure it won't be anything short of wonderful.Justice League of America (JLA) movie, rumor has it that Adam Brody will play The Flash, Common will be Green Lantern, Teresa Palmer as villainess Talia Al Ghul and Michael Gough might do a repeat for Alfred. Good news regarding the cast, or not?

By the way, if you want to see the two lead characters of the upcoming Dragon Ball movie, check them out here.

Anyone looking forward to watching this?

Beowulf

beowulf 2007 movieIn just a few days, Beowulf will be shown in theaters. Is anybody looking forward to watch Beowulf? I know I am. The reasons? Well one, it is a movie about one of the best mythological stories ever and two, Angelina Jolie is there. Yep, I'm Angelina Jolie's fan and I can't wait to see her computerized nude scene. If you haven't heard or read anything about it yet, most of the movie is CG.

Anyway, Beowulf, if you're not aware, is the story of a warrior-hero named Beowulf who has slain the demon Grendel. With Grendel's death, the wrath of his deadly and seductive mother falls upon Beowulf. She wants revenge against the slayer of her son and she wants it bad.

Beowulf, I forgot to mention, is an Anglo-Saxon epic poem that probably came to existence at around 700 AD. Despite it being of Anglo-Saxon origins, the plot and characters heavily relies on Danish and Swedish influences.

Beowulf has a stellar cast lined up:

Ray Winstone
- Beowulf
Anthony Hopkins - Hrothgar
John Malkovich - Unferth
Angelina Jolie - Grendel's mother
Brendan Gleeson - Wiglaf
Crispin Glover - Grendel
Robin Wright Penn - Wealthow
Alison Lohman - Ursula

So is anyone else looking forward to watching Beowulf? I think it'll be a really great movie!

New Hitman movie

Here are some stills for the new movie, Hitman, starring Timothy Olyphant. Hitman will hit the theaters on November 21. It's a movie based on a video game of the same title about a genetically-engineered assassin known only as Agent 47.

I don't think I'll be watching this one, so those of you who are anticipating this movie, tell me what you think of it!

Movies based on Video Games?

devil may cryI recently found a blog that lists the different video game adapted movies that are in the making. I'm not sure if these will be good though, since these kinds of movies have had a history of destroying the game itself.

It's pretty hard to assimilate video game characters into movies, unless of course, they use CG. I guess it's due to the fact that the actors they get to play a character looks anything
but the character (with the exception of Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider). Plus, the plot of the movies somehow manage to destroy the fans' image of their favorite video games. I dunno, but almost all of the video game adapted movies suck IMO. What do you guys think?

Some of the upcoming movies are:
Alice (2008)
Alone in the Dark II (2009)
Area 51 (2009)
Assassin's Creed (TBA)
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (2009)
Castlevania (Late 2008 or Early 2009)
Citizen Siege (2009)
City of Heroes (2010)
Clock Tower (2008)
Cold Fear (2008)
Death, Jr. (TBA)
Devil May Cry (2010)
Doom 2 (TBA)
Driver (2008)
EverQuest (TBA)

300? Nope, 301.

300300 -- That is, if you include King Leonidas of course. A lot of people have seen 300 and it's either they loved it, hated it or remained neutral when it came to their opinions about it. It's undeniable though that the action scenes are something that remains etched inside your head even after several months after watching the movie.

Yeah, the action scenes. Plus the really great CG created especially to fit the theme of the movie: dark and foreboding. It's something that can be fully appreciated on the big screen instead of watching it at home, unless you have one of those big screen TVs that only the filthy rich can afford.

Anyway, I've talked to some people who haven't seen 300. Bleh. You like missed half of your life.

Kidding aside, 300 is a movie adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same title. It's about King Leonidas who goes to war with 300 of his best Spartan men against the Persian Army (who are said to be in the millions or something). The Persians' god-king, Xerxes, wanted to invade Sparta because of the latter's insubordination. The whole movie just centers around the brief preparation of war, the great extent of the actual war that lasted around 3 days, and the aftermath of the war.

A cool thing about 300 is that it's based on a real war between the Spartans and the Persians. What I'm talking about is that this war, King Leonidas and Xerxes did exist in real life. The Battle of Thermopylae is a battle between Leonidas with a few hundred of his men against hundreds of thousands of Persians led by Xerxes.

Enough about history. 300 is a movie for anyone above the age of 20. Lol. Above 13, maybe. It's pure violence and you wouldn't want your kid saying that you're just like Xerxes (because you order him around too much). Well, I'm sure anyone would enjoy it, even just for the action scenes.
