The Mummy Should've Just Stayed in its Tomb

Like seriously.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor had "FAIL" written all over it throughout the entire movie, IMO. The story was shallow, the fight scenes mediocre. I mean, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh were there so I was expecting some really awesome swordfight here and there. Plus, Brendan Fraser was "supposed" to be a funny guy, right? So why were the mummies funnier than he was? Then there's Maria Bello who replaced Rachel Weisz. No chemistry with Fraser, bad English accent...just plain bad at being Eve.

The effects were good though: the terra cotta warriors, the mummies burried under the Great Wall, and the Yeti were really cute (although far from what I thought a Yeti looked like). Plus when the battle was waging between the soldiers and the army of General Ming, the latter were both amusing and funny. Actually, the funniest moments of the film were in this part, IMO.

Fraser's jokes were dry, the antics were old. LIke mummies. I guess they finally ran out of quips that would fit the movie. Bello didn't help at all - I missed Weisz' way of brightening up the movie. The 10-minute narration by Yeoh at the beginning of the movie was okay as it explained how the whole thing started and all but how the O'Connells managed to raise the Emperor was kinda...bleh.

Well I guess that gives you more or less an idea about the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The main reason I was looking forward to watching this so much is because Jet Li was playing the Dragon Emperor. I wouldn't recommend that you waste money for it though. Watch if you only if you really really want to regardless of the reviews and all that.

The Dark Knight

I'll be honest. I didn't really intend to watch The Dark Knight because 1) I'm not a fan of superheroes and 2) Batman Begins bored me to sleep. The movie ticket was a treat though, so why the hell not. Good news though, I didn't sleep a wink for the whole two and a half hours worth of Batman.

First things first: The cast. I loved Joker and Gordon the best in my books, Joker especially. I mean Heath Ledger was beyond awesome. It was the first time I ever saw Joker in that light. He was beyond creepy, actually. He made Joker look like some psycopath. Awesomely creepy.

The Dark Knight's special effects and action scenes were good too. A bit too loud at times, but it was good. Like how Batman would fly and beat up those bad guys. The sonar Batman ripped from Lucius Fox was really unethically cool. (Morgan Freeman is an awesome actor.)

The story? Well I found it to be a typical superhero story, only darker. I guess it's because of how Joker was? I mean, I think he affects all the characters there. The Dark Knight definitely surpasses all those other Batman movies I've seen, including the old series that goes "Kapow" ;)

Too bad Harvey Dent had so little part in the movie as Two-Face. I thought that the movie would end when Dent became the villain, but nooooo. It went on until Dent was no more. Well I'm kinda looking forward to see if there will be a next Batman movie of this sort. If it's anything like Batman Begins, count me out :)

Mamma Mia!

I think Mamma Mia was an awesome musical. Meryl Streep was an even more awesome actress who really gave life to the whole movie. Plus if you grew up listening to ABBA's songs, you'd find yourself singing with the cast when the songs came up.

The story is fairly simple. A girl who is about to get married invites three men who all had a relationship with her mother. The catch is that one of them might be her father. Yeah, that's basically the whole story. Simple, no?

The songs and the actors' voices make the simple story a fun watch though. Their expressions and body movements when they sing makes the songs look as if it were mere exchanges between the actors. Kinda like their usual dialogues.

The dance routines are kinda funny for me, though. I mean, I never really thought that people would dance that way. It's entertaining and quite funny.

I don't think I have that much to say about Mamma Mia. I mean, to be honest, I felt really sleepy during some parts where the drama was happening. I couldn't even comment on most of the actors' acting, except that they all had nice voices. Why? Because Meryl Streep really stood out and I think she made the movie enjoyable. Well Pierce Brosnan was cool too, didn't even know he could sing at all.

Bottomline is, watch Mamma Mia!

"Same Planet. Different World."

At first I thought that this would be another one of those remakes. I thought wrong, of course. Journey to the Center of the Earth proved to be a very interesting, and funny, movie on the Jules Verne classic. It was great the way they were able to interlace the movie with the actual story.

Brendan Frazer was as usual, the source of laughter. His punchlines were right on the mark and they made the movie livelier.

The special effects were awesome too. It really looked like everything from down there were real. The pre-historic animals looked real too! There were some scenes that made me jump off my seat a bit...well I was already at the edge of my seat to begin with, so...

Although personally, I think the Journey to the Center of the Earth was a bit too short and it kinda lacked some real story. Sure, it's about a man who discovers the way to the center of the earth, and who goes through an adventure to find the way back out but...that's all there is to it. They didn't even spend 3 days at the center. Buuuuuut. It's still a good watch.

I think we've caught a glimpse of a potential sequel too!

"I'm sorry" Just Went Up a Notch

This is like one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen!

Okay, given that the story is pretty shallow... I mean, there's this "loser" who suddenly finds himself becoming a part of an elite group of assassins called the Fraternity. What's more, a sexy and beautiful woman becomes his partner. I think any guy would give anything to be in his shoes.

The plot, as I've said, is pretty shallow indeed, but the acting makes the movie worth the watch. Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman really brought their roles to life. It made the movie amazing.

The special effects were cool too, with the curving bullets, adrenaline-induced visions, blood splatters and the like. Even the rat explosions were awesome. But...poor rats (even if they were CG).

Speaking of curving bullets, I've actually heard people wonder out loud if it were really possible to do that. Haha...my friend said he's waiting for a Mythbusters "Wanted" special soon: curving bullets, wax treatment and if rats preferred peanut butter over cheese.

My favorite part would be where Wesley (McAvoy) attacked the Fraternity's fortress and was faced with multitudes of men with guns. That action scene made me not blink and the blood splatters when he shot their heads were realistic.

Then there's the ironic ending where Sloan (Freeman) met his end in the hands (or should I say gun) of Wesley. Oh oh and the part where Fox (Jolie) curved her bullet and killed everyone!!! It is made of WIN!

This movie is definitely a "must-see"!

Runaways - A new Marvel Studios movie

Say hello to the newest Marvel Studios movie. Well sort of. Brian K. Vaughan, creator of the comic Runaways, is currently writing an adaptation of the said comic for the big screen.

I haven't really heard about the Runaways but it was first released on 2002 (I think) and it follows the adventures of a group of teens who find out that their parents are part of this evil-doing group. In short, super-villains spawned these kids who want to make up for what their parents did by doing good. They don't have aliases nor costumes, so it's a new look into the world of superheroes, IMO.

There's no set date yet, but I'm kinda interested in seeing what will come out of the Runaways movie.

Anyway, this is a first look (concept shots) on Disney's Rapunzel in 3D which is set to come out on December...2010. I'm actually looking forward to watching Rapunzel, and no, she isn't a favorite fairy tale character.

Why should we want to watch G.I. Joe?

First Showing gives us a list of five things that will make us WANT to see the G.I. Joe movie.

Hmm...I know I'm excited!

Accelerator Suits that will let them run faster, jump super-high, smash through walls, and shrug off bullets."

Nano Bombs are bombs by Cobra Commander that releases lots of nanites that will eat through anything that isn't organic.

Neo Vipers are a bunch of nanotechnology-enhanced soldiers that have mad ninja skills. They're controlled by Destro and they have no emotion whatsoever. Oh and some obscure guy called "Doctor" is responsible for creating them.

Destro's Mask which is also created by the obscure guy, Doctor, lets Cobra control Destro himself. It's made from nanites and Destro wears it because he's ugly.

Scarlett's Armor, shown in the picture, lets Scarlett become Invisible Woman.

So? Are you excited yet? Is anyone excited yet?

Forbidden Kingdom wasn't what I expected it to be

To put it bluntly, I thought that the movie sucked. The story, at least, because the fight scenes were cool and awesome even if they did use the type of fight scenes you'd normally see on some cheesy old Hong Kong films (with the flying stunts and all). Of course, I'm not generalizing since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon did those kinds of stunts too - artistically, though.

Anyway, Forbidden Kingdom is about an American guy named Jason (Michael Angarano) who finds a staff in some pawnshop in Chinatown. The owner of the shop asks him to deliver the staff to its owner and blah blah he suddenly wakes up to find himself in ancient China - the Middle Kingdom, to be exact.

He meets a drunken master (Jackie Chan) named Lu Yan and his "assistant" Sparrow (Liu Yifei) who tells him the story behind the staff - that it belongs to the Monkey King (Jet Li) who was turned into stone by the Jade Warlord (Collin Chou). Jason needs to give the staff back to the Monkey King in order to end the horrific reign of the Jade Warlord.

Along the way, they come across a monk named Lan Cai He (Jet Li) who tries to steal the staff at first but becomes their friend thereafter. I don't think you'd want me to tell you the rest of the story here, right? So I'll stop with the spoilers here and move on to my ranting.

So I already mentioned that I didn't like the story but I don't think I mentioned why. I thought Forbidden Kingdom was a bit too...Hollywood. I mean, movies about the Monkey King were done in the 70s. Aside from the upcoming Dragon Ball movie, I don't think I've heard of any Monkey King movie that has been highly anticipated as Forbidden Kingdom.

My guess is that a large part of the anticipation comes from the fact that it's Jet Li and Jackie Chan's first movie together -- and seeing them fight is epic. Yeah well, the fight scenes were awesome indeed, but I've definitely seen better (from their individual movies too). Some of the lines and scenes were funny and amusing so I guess that's an upside to it, right?

Did I mention how ugly the guy who played Jason is? And how pretty Sparrow is? Well the Witch is pretty too - I think a lot of people who have seen pictures of her (or the movie itself) will agree with me.

I'm not discouraging anyone from watching Forbidden Kingdom. What has been written here are just some opinions of a kung fu and martial art movie fan. These are rants of a Jet Li fan. Go ahead and watch Forbidden Kingdom then go back here and tell me what you think about it, okay? :)

Some Creatures for the Prince Caspian Movie

Avatar: The Last Airbender on the big screen

I never really got into watching Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender so I've no concrete idea as to how the story goes.

I am quite aware that it has a following though - made up of both kids and adults - whether they're fans of cartoons in general or not.

Now the news of Avatar: The Last Airbender being remade for the big screen has been creating a buzz especially because it'll be in live action. There are no news about who will play the different characters, but the movie is set to be released on July 2, 2010.

What makes it even more intriguing is the fact that it's M. Night Shyalaman who will be adapting the story for the live action movie. The title too has been reduced to just The Last Airbender so that it won't be confused with James Cameron's AVATAR movie.

Shyalaman recently had an interview with Empire and discusses what attracted him to the series and the difficulties of putting into live action the philosophy involved in Avatar: The Last Airbender as well as the action scenes in it:

“Obviously [there will be] some breathtaking visual effects,” the director says. “Just imagine if you saw a little girl bending water out of a glass into the air as an extension of her own personal discipline. It’s three movies about the hero learning three elements. Live action.”

“It’s daunting on the level of not doing it properly,” he admits. “It can’t be special effects for the sake of special effects, it has to be [that you use] take seven because the girl breathes properly on take seven. I have to tell the animators that. Everything, has to have that detail. I can’t leave it. I have to make sure that I make it the same kind of storytelling, but with just one more tool.”

Any thoughts on this?

Devastator Comes to Life!

As we all know, The Hobbit will be coming to our local movie theaters....a couple of years from now. Bear with the long wait, ladies and gents! Ian McKellen has confirmed that he will once again reprise his role as Gandalf in this prequel to the Lord of the Rings!

He wrote in his official site:

"Encouragingly, Peter and Fran Walsh have told me they couldn't imagine The Hobbit without their original Gandalf. Their confidence hasn't yet been confirmed by the director Guillermo del Toro but I am keeping my diary free for 2009!"

Now that this is the case, I'm so looking forward to The Hobbit. I just love Ian McKellen as Gandalf! He suits the character sooooo well, right?!

In partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, MGM will bring new installments of two of its tentpole franchises — the new James Bond movie QUANTUM OF SOLACE and Steve Martin in PINK PANTHER 2. MGM will also release United Artists' international thriller VALKYRIE, starring Tom Cruise on October 3. Waiting for 2009 to come?

A recent article I came across listed the most anticipated movies of 2009. Most of these movies aren't really the type I would normally watch (or waste my money on), but some are just too cool to miss and I'm sure you'd agree to that. Note that these aren't really arranged in any particular order and ALL of them will be released on 2009.

1. Brave New World: Ravaged Planet - another good vs. evil story (hohum).

2. Coxblocker - an ex-boyfriend continuously tries to block Cox from getting together with the (former) girlfriend.

3. Angels and Demons - I'm hoping that this will be a lot better than The Da Vinci Code.

4. Friday the 13th - another remake??

5. G.I. Joe - this is a big part of my childhood... I wish to preserve that.

6. Halo - another game-to-movie movie??

7. Old School Dos - new students, new adventures.

8. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - he's my favorite, and I liked the X-Men movies so far. I hope they stick close to the real story.

9. Playboy - wanna know how to score with hot women? Learn from Hugh Hefner himself.

10. The Brazilian Job - after Italy, it's "Hello, Brazil!"

11. Conquistador - join Hernan Cortes as he destroys the Aztecs. Wow another historical movie that I'll look forward to!

12. Sin City 2 - loved the first one so (I think) I'll love this too.

13. 1776 - join George Washington as he destroys the British. Yep, another historical movie here.

14. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - Johnny Depp (and Jude Law and Collin Farrell - but who cares) is said to replace the late Heath Ledger in this movie. That's enough reason for me to watch it.

15. Inglorious Bastards - a band of soldiers go on a suicide-mission in France.

16. Arrested Development - never watched this so...any fans?

17. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins - woohoo...more Terminator...

Well there you have it. Any takers??

Jumper made me want to jump...

...out of my seat and get out of the movie house as quickly as possible.

I just felt bad about paying for the movie so I decided to stay put and finish the movie. Why did I feel this way? One thing: Jumper was a shallow movie. The storyline was so simple, it made fairy tales look complicated.

Sure, the graphics were really cool, but most of them happened during the latter part of the movie already. Like with the fight between the two Jumpers - David (Christensen) and Griffin (Bell) - and when the fight was ensuing between them and the Palladin, headed by Roland (Jackson). It was a fast-paced, action movie that seemed to be trying hard to include a sci-fi touch to it. The drama wasn't so good either.

And what the heck's up with the tagline, "Anywhere. Anything. Instantly."? It sounds like something Visa or Mastercard would use!

No, I'm not bashing the movie. I've nothing against the cast nor the director of Jumper. I'm just stating my opinion on the movie, based on what I saw when I watched it. If you're looking for a good movie to watch, skip Jumper. If you're into special effects alone, then go ahead and watch it. (Hayden Christensen isn't even good-looking here, so don't watch if you're just after that.)

Josh Hartnett: Bunraku

Josh Hartnett is set to play the role of Drifter in an indie movie entitled Bunraku.

Bunraku is a type of Japanese puppet show but the movie is "a live-action telling a classic story of a stranger coming to town in the tradition of spaghetti Westerns, samurai movies and gangster flicks."

Drifter's story is revenge gone bad. He's out looking for retaliation but finds himself involved in a fight bigger than what he prepared for.

Bunraku will be done ala-"Sin City": a mixture of "puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism."

I'm not really sure if this movie's worth watching. I mean, I'm a fan of samurai movies and I've had my share of viewing experience, but what the producers claimed the movie will include (see paragraph before this), it makes me think twice about the plot of the movie.

Sure there's been samurai movies - well animation, actually and it's a series - that mixes some major aspects to the story that are clearly western like this one.

But yeah, Bunraku isn't even in production yet, so we'll see.

I'm pretty lazy and very sleepy right now but I haven't really updated my blog these days so...

The new James Bond movie is entitled Quantum of Solace. The plot of the movie will continue on from Casino Royale with Bond working towards uncovering Vesper's secrets. It will be released November 7 this year.
This is a new still from another upcoming movie whom I think a lot of people are looking forward to, Ironn Man.

Well...so much for an entry. Anyway, I'll post the nominees for the Oscars tomorrow to make up for this lousy post.

Official: High School Musical 3...

...is pushing through!

The original cast, comprised of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman, have all signed up to reprise their roles for High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

HSM3 will be the last of the High School Musical series. This'll be like the cast's graduation from East High. The plot so far revolves around Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) grudgingly face the fact that they could be separated after they graduate, when they both head off to college.

So this time, the movie's more of the fear of the future. And I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to that at one point or another. There's no set date yet as to when High School Musical 3 will be released, but I'm looking forward to watching it. I loved the first two movies, so I'm pretty sure I'll like the last one too.

Yes, I'm a pseudo-fan of High School Musical. At least, I'm honest!

New Wolverine Update!

Liev Schreiber seems to have been chosen to play Victor Creed, also known as Sabretooth for the much-anticipated X-Men: Origins movie. This disproves the claim that he will be playing the role of young Stryker.

Since we're talking cast, it seems that Michael C. Hall will instead have the role of Stryker while the producers have their eyes on Michelle Monaghan to play the part of Silverfox.

"Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe."

Movies I'm looking forward to...

If there's one movie I'm looking forward to this year, it definitely has to be Indiana Jones 4. No doubt about that. I've been a really big Indiana Jones (and Harrison Ford) fan ever since I was a kid. So the fourth (and final...) installment is something to really get excited about.

From archaeological action to martial arts, next on my list is Jet Li and Jackie Chan's Forbidden Kingdom. Aren't you martial arts fans excited? I mean, Jet Li AND Jackie Chan. In one movie. Together. What can be better than that??

Then there's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The Order of the Phoenix movie was a bit "bleh" when I watched it. I was actually pretty bored with it and it's like it lacked a lot especially from my viewpoint since I've read the book. I've no idea what other fans might say, but I hope they bring in something new to HBP and created the movie far from what they did to OOTP.

Of course, I'm very, very, very anxious to see 10,000 B.C. already. I think the concept of the movie, a war set during the Ice Age between prehistoric men and some unknown force is really intriguing. I've seen the trailer (which is posted here) and it really looks awesome!

In line with Harry Potter, I'm also looking forward to Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I absolutely fell in love with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and this looks just as promising.

There are more movies that I'm looking forward to (like Coraline, The Mummy 4 and Shine A Light) but these are the ones I'm looking forward to the most.

The story revolves around a superhero drunkard who isn't liked by anyone. He meets a publicist who tries to help the superhero fix his life. The publicist continues to help the superhero not knowing that the latter is having an affair with the publicist's wife.

Hancock is set to come out on July 2, 2008. The cast includes Will Smith (superhero), Jason Bateman (publicist) and Charlize Theron (publicist's wife).

So the Tekken movie gets a director

I'm getting more and more skeptical about the upcoming Tekken movie. Why? Because Dwight Little is going to direct it.

Dwight Little is going to be the DIRECTOR for the TEKKEN MOVIE!

So what's the big deal? Nothing really, especially if you liked Little's other movies like Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Murder at 1600, Rapid Fire and Marked for Death.

What will Tekken's plot be?

According to Little:

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people. It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

Oh puh-leeeeze.

A-Team on the big screen?

John Singleton, director of Boyz N the Hood, is said to be preparing to create a remake of the 1980s TV hit series, the A-Team. Twentieth Century Fox is in the process of "talking" but no deals have been made yet.

As for the one who's playing Baracas (Mr. T), Ice Cube, who starred in Singleton's movie, is said to be perfect for the part. (I'm not too sure how they define "perfect", so don't ask.)

And for the plot, some Iraqi are wanted by the US government for crimes that they did not commit. The team tries to help them while running from the government themselves. Add in some oil tycoons and lasers, you have a movie I'm not too sure I'll watch.

The Hobbit is coming!

Good news, LOTR and Tolkien fans!

LOTR director, Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema has finally settled their dispute over the profits of the fantasy trilogy. Jackson has agreed to direct two movies based on Tolkien's The Hobbit - the prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Both films are to be shot simultaneously, like with the Lord of the Rings, and the principal photography is said to take place on 2009. This leaves 2010 and 2011 as release dates for The Hobbit and its sequel respectively.

I guess they're dramatizing everything that happens from the time he plans to kill the ex-Beatle until the actual pulling of the trigger that ended the rock superstar's life. Maybe they added a few "after the killing" story about Champman - kinda like the epilogue or something.

They should make a movie that's about John Lennon himself. Like what they did with Bob Dylan.

Horton Hears a Who is a CGI movie based on one of Dr. Seuss' books of the same title. It's about an elephant named Horton who gets everyone around him mad as he tries to protect small "creatures" that inhabits a speck of dust.

Horton is voiced by Jim Carrey and the Whos are all voiced by Steve Carell. The movie will be released on March 14, 2008.

Rolling Stones fans! I think all you guys are excited to see this documentary-movie that features footages of the band's recent concert that was captured by award-winning director, Martin Scorcese. Well at the very least, I know I'm excited.

Shine a Light focuses on the 2006 concert of the Rolling Stones in the Beacon Theater, New York, where the band sang some unrecorded songs that were heard for the first time in their whole career. With a group of highly-skilled cinematographers from different critically-acclaimed films, they shot the documentary in a span of two-days - every angle capturing the intensity and passion of the Rolling Stones. Oh the executive producers are the band members themselves.

Shine a Light will be released on April 4, 2008.

Qwerty is a Filipino indie movie made by Paolo Dy. It's a really chilling and thought-provoking short film. It runs around 5 minutes - pretty short but it's amazing how everything can fit in that short amount of time. The movie was introduced to me by a friend and was a bit reluctant to watch it at first but he kinda persuaded me to do so. And man...I didn't regret it one bit.

I don't really want to delve onto the details of the movie because I think that it'll just spoil everything for the viewer. Why don't you just watch it, right? It's just 5 minutes and I'm positive that you won't regret it at all!

Spiderwick Chronicles -- A new children's movie

I haven't really read the books but Spiderwick Chronicles have had nice reviews about it. From what I've gathered, Spiderwick Chronicles is one of those fantasy children stories - which was probably released after the Harry Potter hype. I mean, I've only seen the books some time after several Harry Potter books have been out and became popular.

So what is Spiderwick Chronicles about?

Jared Grace moved from New York with his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory and their mother to some secluded old house owned by their great-great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Strange things start to happen as soon as they move in, like things disappearing or accidents suddenly happening, and they all blame Jared for everything. The three children decide to investigate these strange occurrences that is happening every day and they find out about the secret of the Spiderwick house and the different creatures that live there.

I think that this might be a better movie than A Series of Unfortunate Events. The story seems to target children more with it's fantastic plot and all. It might be a good watch, so if you have kids, or is a kid-at-heart, try to catch the Spiderwick Chronicles on February 15, 2008.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian trailer

I liked the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie, so I think I'll definitely watch Prince Caspian when it comes out. The story itself is nice, as the siblings once again goes back to Narnia, this time helping a prince in distress.

The movie is set to be released on May 16, 2008 in the US.

10,000 B.C. -- A young hunter is out leading an army across the wild and untamed desert where he has to battle mammoths and saber tooth tigers to save his tribe's princess from an evil warlord.

Well, that's practically the gist of the whole movie but it sounds exciting, doesn't it? I mean, war movies these days are all going further and further into time. Makes me wonder when the next time frame will be.

I'm so looking forward to this movie. It's a fantastic one since there's a lot of inconsistencies within the story and history itself - so it's interesting to see something like 10,000 B.C. Watch the trailer to see if this interests you too:

Mirrormask

So has anyone seen Mirrormask yet? It's the movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel. The story is wonderfully fantastic. I mean, it is Neil Gaiman we're talking about here. If you haven't really seen the movie, or read the book for that matter, Mirrormask is kind of like an Alice in Wonderland story.

Helena comes from a family of circus entertainers but sometimes she wishes to be part of the real world. She then blames herself after a big fight with her parents and her mother suddenly getting sick. On the night before her mother gets operated on, Helena falls asleep and dreams that she is in another world full of grotesque creatures and has two queens: the white and the black queen. As Helena discovers that the white queen is sick and the only thing that can save her is an instrument called the Mirrormask, Helena does everything in her power to find the mask. Deeper into her dream, Helena starts to wonder if the world she's living in is becoming more and more real the longer she stays.

I like the movie because it realistically depicts the world Neil Gaiman created. The story itself is simple but deep. I suggest that you watch it because it really brings the book to life. If you've never heard of the movie, now's the best time to check it out:

With a title like Cloverfield, I really wouldn't have had given it much thought until I read that Cloverfield is the elusive 1-18-08 movie by J.J. Abrams. Will it be one of the best monster movies ever made? Will it suck? Will it look like another Godzilla rip-off?

I'm not sure if I want to watch it. I probably will though. Roughly 2 more months to go!

The Eye -- Another Remake

Here we have another Asian horror movie remake. (Can't Hollywood ever come up with their own horror movie these days?) The Eye stars Jessica Alba and it will be released next year, February 1, 2008.

So what is the movie about? The Eye is about a woman who receives an eye transplant. Apparently, the eye that she receives is cursed and this causes the woman to see things differently. Meaning, she can see dead people and stuff.

The original The Eye (Jian Gui in Chinese) was pretty scary. As the tradition of Hollywood horror remakes (at least on my part), they aren't even half as scary as the original ones. Which really sucks, you know? Anyway, before I end up ranting more, watch the trailer and see if you're willing to spend some money on this remake or not.

Maggie Q = Silver Fox?

I've just read that Die Hard actress Maggie Q is one of the top choices to play the character Silver Fox in the 2009 movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Backtrack a bit. It has been confirmed that Silver Fox is included in the prequel. What's unconfirmed is who's playing her...but Maggie Q is the top choice apparently.

Who is Silver Fox?

Silver Fox is Wolverine's love interest. More like his ex-girlfriend or something to that note. I don't really know how their little relationship started but Silver Fox is a CIA-agent-turned-terrorist in the comic's story. She's killed by Sabretooth by the way.

Okay, so does knowing that Silver Fox is in X-Men Origins: Wolverine makes you want to watch the movie more? Or is it Maggie Q that extra push to make you want to watch the movie today? I personally don't find her pretty and I'm looking forward to the movie mainly because Wolverine's my favorite X-Men (and Hugh Jackman's a plus).

I'm so looking forward to watching National Treasure: Book of Secrets. I loved the first National Treasure movie, so I'm pretty confident that I'll love the second movie too. Book of Secrets is about..well..a book of secrets. It's a book that only the presidents of the United States can read. Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) needs to get his hands on this book in order to prove his great-great grandfather's innocence in Abraham Lincoln's death.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets will be released on December 21, 2007. Mark your calendars, people!!

Naomi Watts in Angels & Demons?

In case anyone's looking forward to the movie adaptation of Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, Naomi Watts might play opposite great actor Tom Hanks. The movie is set to be released May 15, 2009 because of the setback caused by the recent writers' strike.

Personally, I liked Angels & Demons than The Da Vinci Code. The books, of course. Although I'm kind of skeptical about the Angel & Demons movie. I didn't really enjoy the DVC movie. If it weren't for Tom Hanks, I'd hate the movie. I think Tom Hanks was the saving grace of The Da Vinci Code.

I don't really care much about people saying that the book/movie is sacrilegious. It's their opinion and their faith. I take the movie as a movie, nothing personal. Then again, there isn't anything to be taken personally in the first place.

Oh well. I might watch Angels & Demons either for the sake of watching it, or because it got good reviews, or because I already watched DVC. Keyword: might.
